Paula Shaw, Ph.D., CEO/Founder

Dr. Shaw, a Clinical Psychologist, has over 20 years of experience and was named one of the 25 Powerful Minority Women in Business by the Minority Enterprise Executive Council (MEEC) in 2008. She is experienced in Healthcare Management and Research with special skills in the areas of contract management and administration, healthcare provider training, executive management, training and general management of both profit and non-profit entities.

Prior to starting the company, Dr. Shaw was a Clinical Psychologist in Private Practice from 1980 to 1997. As a licensed practitioner, she provided individual, family, and group therapy sessions to individuals suffering from mental health conditions, including active troops or veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Dr. Shaw worked with adults and children from diverse backgrounds and conducted psychological assessment and testing services.

Michael Carter, President

Mr. Carter is a 20 year veteran and former U.S. Marine Corps Officer. At Altos, he is responsible for shaping the company, as it continues to mature and grow through driving business opportunities throughout the Department of Defense and federal government healthcare industry.

Mr. Carter came to Altos Group from Kelly Government Solutions, a division of Kelly Services, where he provided leadership serving as Vice President of Business Development. He led business development and account management driving the business growth to ~$80M annually. Mr. Carter served as a member of Kelly Services Americas Leadership Council, which focused on cross selling relationships across business lines, process control and organizational learning and development for business leaders. He led the Kelly FedSecure Business Unit providing security cleared professionals supporting the technical, professional, and programmatic staffing requirements supporting the needs of the federal government increasing profitability >1100% in a 12 month period.

Veronica Lane, Vice President of Operations

Ms. Lane is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served ten years as a Navy nurse and achieved the rank of Lieutenant. Ms. Lane provides operational oversight and management for Altos' contract services. In this role, she oversees all performance and policy issues related to the contract. Ms. Lane has managed multi-disciplinary healthcare provider contracts for the past 15 years serving in both the military and private healthcare arenas. As a result, she is familiar with the unique challenges of providing specialized healthcare staff for MTFs and hospitals.

Ms. Lane is experienced and has proven herself to be successful in providing innovative solutions to various staffing concerns. Additionally, Ms. Lane will coordinate with the Credentialing and Program Managers to facilitate the annual screening and re-certification processes. She has active registered nurse licenses in Ohio, Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. Ms. Lane holds a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Ursuline College and Masters of Nursing from Marymount University.

Michael Southall, CPA, Vice President of Finance

Mr. Southall is a Certified Public Accountant and has been with Altos since 2002. He has 12 years of experience at the Controller level or above and reports directly to the President. Mr. Southall provides and prepares company budgets, financial forecasts and financial plans as well as overseeing the Payroll and Accounting departments. He also acts as a liaison between Altos and various financial institutions to provide statements and ensure our line of credit. Prior to working at Altos, he was a Controller for KYARRA, a clothing company in New York. Mr. Southall has a degree in accounting from the University of Maryland at College Park.
